Theatre during Elizabethan England was available to people from all different classes it was not just an upper class pastime.
However, commoners would not have been able to sit with nobility watching he play. The pricing of seats depended on how comfortable they were. In the globe the higher class visitors would pay 5d for seats higher up and would have pillows for them to sit on. People paying less would have to stand in the theatre pit and would only pay 1d.
Flags would be flown over the theatre to promote the play that was being performed that day, colour coding distinguished what type of play it was. A black flag mean tit was a tragedy, white flag a comedy an red flag a history.
The plays were extremely popular for everyone and huge crowds would be flooding to the theatre whenever there was play on, the only time the numbers dropped was when the plague hit ad the theatre was closed due to the disease in 1593,1603 and 1608.
